FACTS & SERVICE TIPS FROM THE EXPERTS
The Tube Remains King Of The Desktop!
From Electronic Business Today:
"Despite rumors of desktop liquid crystal displays replacing cathode-ray tube terminals, CRT technology is in no immediate danger of losing its lease on the desktop. The technologies compete, but only in a few small areas, like the smallest desktop computers. Although larger, higher resolution LCDs are continually appearing, the state of the art in mass-market color LCDs is approximately 13 inches diagonal with a resolution of 800x600 pixels. Meanwhile, CRTs with diagonals of several feet are available, with resolutions exceeding 1,600x1,200 pixels. CRTs offer other advantages as well. They remain superior to LCDs in terms of speed of response, viewing angle, color, and environmental issues such as temperature range. CRT is the center of the universe as far as the display monitor is concerned. TV broadcast standards were set by the FCC in 1945. At that time, a 10" black & white set was a big screen and had a picture that size was quite sharp. Computer technology has not had the restrains of the TV broadcast industry. Currently there are high resolution monitors that can produce almost 35 mm picture quality. Unlike small monochrome CRTs, High Resolution CRTs are more expensive and their cost up to 80% of the monitor's price".

Save the King!
To prevent costly repairs requiring replacement of the CRTs > remember:

- Low-light environments can allow you to reduce Brightness and Contrast to a mid-range position. (The CRT is a regular light bulb (it just costs more) with a light filament; high emission shortens the CRT's life.)
- You do not have to turn the monitor on and off, just decrease Brightness and Contrast and save the CRT at the same time."
